What Is the WAW FUE System?

The WAW FUE hair transplant system has made follicular unit extraction (FUE) faster, easier, and more productive. It’s designed as a minimally invasive FUE procedure that has several advantages over the traditional “strip” or follicular unit transplantation (FUT) method. The WAW FUE system can help you achieve the following:

  • Increased number of follicles per graft
  • Much lower transection rate
  • Reduced scars
  • Faster harvesting
  • Fewer missing grafts

It employs a unique shape extraction device developed to closely imitate the natural shape of follicular units, consisting of punches that have an external border and an internal border. The flat punch has a square-shaped external border that is sharp enough to cut the scalp under pressure and at low velocity. On the contrary, the internal border is smooth enough to dissect the graft forward without cutting or transecting it.

This design allows Dr. Thiele to extract a large number of grafts of high quality without making a bigger incision, reducing the risk of harming healthy follicular units. The WAW FUE system creates an incision way smaller (about 0.8 to 0.9 millimeters) that can speed up the healing process and limit visible scarring.

How WAW FUE Works

At The Hair Transplant Center – Fort Worth, we offer a cutting-edge WAW FUE system to our patients which is faster, better, and more efficient. The trumpet-shaped punch provides a dull and sharp punch penetrating the skin to facilitate both oscillation and rotation. This allows for deeper penetration to the hair shaft without damaging the hair follicle, necessary for the survival of the follicle after being transplanted to the recipient site.

The WAW FUE extraction device has a suction feature that accelerates the extraction process and decreases the overall time spent to finish the procedure. It has the lowest transection (an incision placed across a follicle that causes damage) rate of all FUE devices, with reports at lower than 4%. This distinctive feature maintains the quality of harvested follicles and creates a graft with an increased rate of survival.

WAW Instruments: Tools and Devices to Create Better Hair Transplants

Hair restoration has gone to great lengths over the past years. Among these advancements, Dr. Jean Devroye formulated his cutting-edge Hybrid Trumpet punch consisting of a motorized pedal and punches to extract follicular grafts. Dr. Devroye started the breakthrough of a punch that could cut the epidermis at low speeds, still dissecting the graft without transecting the follicles within it. The most advanced Hybrid Trumpet punch is designed for hair transplant doctors who take pride in providing the highest quality results possible to their patients.

The new version (commercial model) of the WAW FUE System now offers its wireless control of the three basic dials to achieve optimum results of FUE:

  • The first dial adjusts the angle or arc of oscillation.
  • The second dial alters the speed of oscillation.
  • The third dial enhances the initial speed of the punch.

With these features, your hair transplant physician can modify the acceleration speed, oscillation mode, and angulation. It also provides beneficial scoring counting that can be restarted at any time.

The Hybrid Trumpet punch offers the advantage of dull and sharp punches with a 90-degree outer edge and a smooth funnel-shaped inner edge. It makes penetration into the skin more gentle and less traumatic. In that case, the Hybrid Trumpet punch works like a dissection tool rather than a cutting one.

With the threading movement, you can go deeper without damaging hair follicles which is essential for hair regrowth. Similarly, the suction effect provides increased extraction speed.

The ultimate goal of the invention is to produce FUE grafts similar to FUT grafts and get results similar to that obtained with the FUT. To go more in depth, the benefits of this revolutionized innovation include:

  • Reducing transection and pairing rates.
  • Decreasing all the injuries that follicular units undergo during the extraction.
  • Reducing the number of missing grafts.
  • Boosting the intrinsic quality of the extraction.

At The Hair Transplant Center – Fort Worth, Dr. Stefan Thiele shares this rewarding experience of producing high-quality grafts upon extraction, as well as faster completion of the procedure. Now, you can have grafts that are less transected, plumper, and richer in hairline design.

Benefits of WAW FUE Hair Transplant

With the WAW FUE system, hair transplant technology has gained a higher level of efficacy and success in developing instruments, combining techniques, and defining surgical steps that allow patients to consistently receive a perfect solution for their hair loss problems.

With this special design and approach comes the following benefits:

01
More Grafts and Hair
02
Much Lower Transection Rate
03
Diminished Scars
04
Faster Extraction
05
Fewer Missing Grafts

More Grafts and Hair

The Hybrid Tornado punch with its unique shape, allows your hair transplant surgeon to collect both higher quality and a greater number of grafts. Follicular units splay out and have a conical shape that makes your doctor raise the punch diameter to extract the whole graft using sharp punches. This increases the chances of damaging the surrounding hair and decreases the number of grafts collected.

Much Lower Transection Rate

The Hybrid Tornado punch has a 90-degree outer edge that allows penetrating the skin easily. A smooth inner edge (funnel-shaped) handles the graft carefully, working in a vertical motion that lets the HT punch work like a dissection tool in a less aggressive way. There is less concern about transection, as the rates drop between 3% to 8%.

Diminished Scars

The smooth inner shape allows the need to raise the diameter of the punches to avoid transections. Therefore, you don’t have to worry about getting large scars on the scalp.

Faster Extraction

The Hybrid Tornado punch requires more time during the penetration process, which leaves the grafts left untied.

Fewer Missing Grafts

The dull punches are bound to bury the grafts, while the sharp punches tend to transect them. The Hybrid Tornado punch prevents these issues by using the moderate pressure and sucking effect of the funnel-shaped inner edge that can significantly reduce the missing grafts rate.

Now, if you’re thinking of getting an FUE hair transplant in Fort Worth, you want results that are as comfortable, pain-free, and efficient as possible. Contact us at The Hair Transplant Center – Fort Worth to experience this revolutionary FUE hair transplant technology.

What Is the Best FUE Hair Transplant Method?

With the WAW FUE system, the chance of damaging the hair follicle is significantly reduced. The ideal FUE device should deliver great flexibility in removing follicular units. The width of the punch must be expanded when it reaches the base of the follicle to get the entire follicular unit without damaging it. Increasing the diameter as you go deeper increases the risk of traumatizing some portion of the follicular unit or the surrounding follicles.

This way, it’s much easier to remove the graft (as there are fewer attachments) and the graft is more elevated so that it can be gently removed. This inhibits the forceful movements needed to extract the graft when the incision isn’t deep enough. It also leaves more fatty tissue that covers the graft, which protects from possible damage due to dehydration and trauma.

WAW FUE Assisted Device

The WAW FUE system allows Dr. Thiele to utilize a punch that could cut the epidermis at low speeds and yet still dissect the graft without transecting the follicles within it. In that case, it is possible to penetrate deeper with reduced speed, as the resistance will progressively decrease. As a result, it can yield a higher number of hairs per graft with the lowest rate of damage while accelerating the process of harvesting.

This state-of-the-art hair restoration device has an outstanding success rate. At The Hair Transplant Center – Fort Worth, we appreciate the fact that our patients spend less time at the doctor’s office during a hair transplant procedure.
